O espaço escolar e sua contribuição para o ensino de Língua Estrangeira Moderna: um estudo de caso

Abstract

The school physical space still leaves many questions when considered as a tool for the teaching and learning process. On the teaching of foreign languages, this problem intensifies, by reason of the actual need of the existence of spaces, set as facilitators to practice a new language. With the purpose of finding solutions to the lack of an environment that promotes the teaching and learning of a foreign language, which in this case is the English language, bibliographic in nature qualitative research and case study. This research was based on the case study in EE "Antônio Marinho de Carvalho Filho", located within the State of São Paulo, in the city of Hyderabad. For that there is only a one-sided view of the researcher, the qualitative research was based on relationships between users and the existing spaces, through both observation of lessons and the school building spaces. In addition to the observations, questionnaires were used and unstructured interviews geared toward students and teachers involved in the process of teaching and learning the English language. Important to remember that the study was based on experience in the classroom of elementary school Cycle II, 6th to 9th grade. To address this issue, it was necessary to also assess the physical environment, their occupation and the perception of the users, through an experiential approach and behavioral observation. To this end, the instruments were used: Walkthrough, Behavioral Map, Wish, Visual Selection, Poem and a technical inspection which featured survey and architectural documentation. The bibliographical research in the fields of pedagogy and Kowaltowski studies included Architecture, Frago, Rheingantz and other theorists who worry about the use of school space as curriculum and in which are some clear answers about the spatial influence in the educational process. The collected data intensified the need for readjustment in the space school studied in relation to the process-oriented environments for teaching and learning, in particular in the English language. Finally, use alternatives were pointed and occupation of spaces studied with recommendations for improvement of the environments with the aim of promoting the teaching of Modern Foreign languages.
